Les Éditions du Boréal is offering a set of three books that will meet the reading needs of young and old:
L’Entre-deux-mondes, Journal 2016 - 2018 by Dominique Lebel (literature, 2019) in French
What happens when a Quebec businessman who travels the world and has spent precious years in politics accumulating notes in his black books? Under the pen of Dominique Lebel, these notes are transformed into a narrative that marries the foibles and magnitudes of his contemporaries, a diary with agile and alert prose, nourished by a passionate love of books.
Le Piège de la liberté, Les peuples autochtones dans l’engrenage des régimes coloniaux, by Denys Delâge and Jean-Philippe Warren (literature, 2017) in French
This book tells how the "meeting of the two worlds" between indigenous nations and European empires has caused an immense culture shock. It analyzes the mechanisms that led, in the name of civilization, to the crushing and expropriation of the peoples of North America. Through concrete examples, he reveals what the authors call "the trap of modernity", the freedom promised by Westerners ultimately serving to oppress and repress the Amerindian populations. A vast fresco that covers more than three hundred years of history, this book tells us at least as much about the indigenous nations in the colonial era as the Western world in which we live. The portrait that emerges from this study, at once detailed and accessible, is of an implacable lucidity.
Pilleurs de rêves by Cherie Dimaline (Youth, 2019) in French
In a ravaged world that is falling to ruin, human beings have lost the ability to dream. Only indigenous peoples have been able to preserve this faculty whose secret lies in the marrow of their bones. Frenchie, a young Métis man, flees the city to escape the desperate men who hunt down the native people as animals in order to obtain the precious substance. Already, his family has fallen under their hands. Along with his traveling companions, Frenchie is moving north to reach the land of his ancestors and ensure the survival of his family.

Made from a wonderful Tuscany vintage, Tenuta Nuova 2013 from Casanova di Neri estate has all the qualities of a very grand Brunello di Montalcino. Cooler than usual temperature and a slow ripening period have led to the harvest of berries with good aromatic potential.
At first taste, Tenuta Nuova 2013 Casanova di Neri presents a beautiful bright red colour. The nose opens with intense notes of red fruits and blackberries, giving way to a fragrance of balsamic notes. On the palate, the wine unfolds a full and fleshy texture balanced with an underlying silky and tannic structure. The rich aromatic persistence stretches into a long finish.
This is a powerful Brunello di Montalcino able to distinguish itself from other wines of the appellation by its capacity to hint at great potential of aging while being tasted in its youth.
Parker: 97/100

This is an offering for those whose heart is torn between Quebec and France.
This Château de la Charrière Santenay Premier Cru Beauregard 2015 from the estate of Yves Girardin, is accompanied by a typical Quebec pairing of aged cheddar and maple syrup. The maple syrup Maheu is offered by Serge Maheu, the projection designer of our shows Hockey Noir and Stylus Phantasticus, who produces syrup in his off-hours.
This Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard from a 100% Chardonnay grape variety has a light gold color and a refined, distinctive nose driven by white flowers. The palate shows seductive aromatic honesty, freshness and a generous mouthfeel. It's an assertively elegant first growth.
It goes wonderfully well with white meats and fish and can easily be kept for 2-4 years if the storage conditions are good (constant temperature and fairly high humidity).
The GIRARDIN family have cultivated the vine for 13 generations, and the domaine developed in the sixties thanks to Jean GIRARDIN, notably with the acquisition of Château de la Charrière.
This lot is composed of rare books and graphic novels for curious young people.

La fille du professeur by Joann Sfar and Emmanuel Guibert (Graphic Novel, Dupuis, 1997)
Thirty centuries separate them ... and yet, they love each other. London, late nineteenth century. Imhotep would like to marry Liliane, the teacher's daughter. Only downside: Imhotep is not a suitor like the others. It's a mummy. A former prince of Egypt, three thousand years old, who walks in strips wrapped in Victorian London. Liliane's father, a very "good-looking" man, thinks it's a little messy. After all, Imhotep is an antiquity: hius place is in the British Museum ...
An exceptional graphic work in the service of a classic scenario (romantic without being cutesy) but well done and which owes a lot to the presence of very colorful characters.
"One of the best comics of 1997, perhaps even a small masterpiece."
Le Double chat by Philippe Geluck (Two Graphic Novels, Casterman, 1999)
Each package contains : Le Chat 1999,9999 et L’Avenir du Chat (in French)
The Cat obviously could not finish the millennium like everyone else. To commemorate the year 2000, he splits himself up and put himself all over the place. He 'yinned" and he "yanged".
The double Cat: Thanks to him? to them? He put aside the domestic quarrel when a new book arrived at the hour that they each wanted to check out. No more shredded copies by too-eager hands, hoping to be the first to read them.
At a moment near the end of the 2nd millennium, a box arrives at his door, What a miracle! It contains two books!
- Honey, where do you want to start?
- But please, my darling, it's your choice. And when we are done, we will exchange them.
Peace has returned to the household.
Thank you Cat.

La Place des Arts is offering a pair of tickets for the Buddy Guy / Colin James show presented at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier on July 6, 2019 as part of the Festival international de Jazz de Montréal.
It only takes one listen to The Blues Is Alive and Well, the 18th studio album of the greatest monument of blues still alive, Buddy Guy, to realize that the album title is absolutely true. It presents a raw and pure sound, a real pleasure for both devotees and new fans of the genre. This show will be a new opportunity to admire Guy's incredible talents as a performer. And if being a blues musician is about always maintaining a certain dialogue with the past, Colin James, singer and Canadian musician, will also prove to the audience that this style of music is still firmly in the present. He will wow his audience with songs from Miles To Go, his latest album, released in September. An unmissable blues night for the 40th anniversary of the festival!
